Visiting Alain Mailland

24 September 2018

I had the privilege to meet Alain Mailland at this workshop and to spend some time with him (and his very energetic dog!) in his workshop and studio. He will be presenting two modules to us as part of the course I am doing at Ecole Escoulen and now that I have met him and seen his work first hand I am even more excited to learn from him.

He has a home built forge where he makes a lot of his own tools and invents new tools for some of the amazing creations he does.

A very friendly and welcoming guy ready to share his creative space and knowledge.

To see some of his work have a look at this link:

The Daniel Collection

13 September 2018

It was my good fortune and also privilege to be invited to view The Daniel Collection by Shirley Sinclair while I was in the UK. I spent an amazing 4 1/2 hours with Jonathon Cuff as my guide. My mind was expanded by the amazing works by some of the very best wood turning artists in the world in this collection. The few pictures I took could not possibly do the works in the collection justice.

Accepted to Ecole Escoulen!

26 June 2018

I have some super exciting news!
I have been accepted to école Escoulen in France (www.escoulen.com/en) to attend their full time wood turning course!
I shall leave for France mid September and return in April 2019.
I am super excited!

The school only accepts 11 students every year for their full time course. I am super honored to have been chosen to attend. 700 hours of full time tuition coming up!

Kawerau National Woodskills competition 2017

In 2017 the 27th national woodskills competition was held as part of the Kawerau Woodfest. This was the first time I had entered any official judged competition and I was thrilled to be awarded a first place in the ‘First Time Entrants’ competition with my Black Walnut and Rimu ‘Rocket’ pot.

Participation Weekend – September 2017

The South Auckland Woodturners Guild host a biannual participation weekend in the Hunua ranges at the YMCA camp Adaire. This year 49 participants from all over the world, including The UK, South Africa the USA and Australia gathered for four days of learning, sharing and turning.

My highly figured Rimu bowl was awarded second place in the instant gallery section. As a new turner amongst some of the greatest names in New Zealand and the world this was a very special award.
